Datasheet for Vonesso_M-0_Base
[0.20.25][Ion Orbiter] none, Vonesso by Vilda (1.5m)
Design: Hard - Tons of small optimizations taken from the greatest ion orbiters built through years of classic.
Piloting: Hard - Direct control is practically mandatory. Easy to pick up, but takes experience to truly master.
Top Speed: 105.1 m/s forward
Triple-layered barrel shielding and center-top capacitor relays give this ship an edge in the mirror. The fully-vertical x24 emitter array let me squeeze seven outputs through a two-wide exit, converging at ramming range. Armor can easily be rearranged or removed to make room for further specializations such as structure hooks or point defense if desired - here I skipped out on rear armor to fit more on the front and sides.
I made a few minor tweaks when bringing this ship to modern, but the general layout has remained nearly unchanged for a year and a half. Putting aside tractor beams and nukes, many unfavorable matchups can be brute-forced through piloting finesse and good rams. I'm a little surprised this ship still picks up wins as often as it does. Seriously, it should suck but somehow doesn't. What's up with that?
