The ship was made with the large hole in mind, hence the “missing half” actually being mostly redundant, as an EMP and disruptor is enough for its size. A somewhat niche but helpful application of asymmetrical construction that also means the EMP and disruptor are closer together and so easier to protect (though note the armour in between them prevents destroying them both at once)
